To ensure security in their e-Banking transactions and personal information, consumers should be oriented of their roles and responsibilities which, at a minimum, include the following:
Protect Yourself From Online Fraud
Familiarize yourself with the common types of cyber fraud and the steps you can take to protect yourself.
1. Phishing
● Fake emails or websites trick you into giving sensitive info like passwords or bank account numbers.
● Prevention: Don’t click links in emails. Type the official website address directly.
2. Spoofing
● Fraudsters impersonate a trusted source, like a bank or government agency, to get your info.
● Prevention: Verify sender identity. Check email addresses and official contact info.
3. Vishing (voice phishing)
● Scammers call pretending to be your bank and ask for confidential info.
● Prevention: Never share PINs or passwords over the phone. Hang up and call official numbers.
4. Smishing (SMS phishing)
● Fraudulent text messages asking for login details or personal info.
● Prevention: Avoid clicking links in unknown messages. Confirm through official channels.
5. Malware / Ransomware
● Malicious software infects your device to steal info or block access.
● Prevention: Keep software updated, avoid suspicious downloads, and use security apps.
Tip: If something feels suspicious or too good to be true, pause, verify, and report.

● Always type the full web address instead of clicking links.
● Check for “https” and the padlock icon in the browser. Double-check the certificate if needed.
